Pursuing Environmental Excellence
Our commitment to improving patient health comes with a responsibility to protect the planet we all share. As we work to solve healthcare’s toughest challenges, we are taking decisive action to reduce our environmental impacts and achieve carbon neutrality.
Working with sustainability-minded customers, since 2017, we increased the number of patients reached by 20% while reducing our carbon footprint by 50%
Responding to Climate Change
Boston Scientific sets ambitious climate change goals, and we are on track to meet our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality in all manufacturing and key distribution sites by 2030. We became the first medical device manufacturer to make such a pledge in 2017. Since the start of 2017, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 50 percent. A central component of the company’s carbon neutrality approach is our C3 energy strategy. Global and site teams collaborate across Boston Scientific to meet its objectives:
1) Cut energy use
2) Convert to renewable energy sources instead of relying on fossil fuels
3) Compensate with carbon credits and offset projects for any remaining unavoidable emissions
Our Plan to Make a Difference
Our changing planet needs problem solvers. By addressing our energy consumption, carbon output and environmental design, we are helping to make measurable progress towards reducing our climate impacts.
We are all responsible for the consequences of our actions. We strive to minimize the environmental impact of our operations by proactively managing our waste generation and water use. We carefully examine the materials we use in our products, the resources used to make and transport them, and how we can reduce waste.
Our climate change and environmental impact greenhouse gas metrics have been verified by an independent third party.
